Abe creates his show stopping paintings using a wide variety of tools including palette knives, spatulas, old toothbrushes, wire wool, in fact anything and everything that will give him the desired mark he i’s after. First covering the canvas in a thick, textured layer of Titanium white, Abe then adds random areas of colour which he will eventually skim over using a palette knife, loaded with Ivory black, adding grey tones as the painting develops, yet being careful to leave small pops of colour added earlier.
Letting his instinct take over, Abe works directly onto the canvas using acrylics straight from the tube, with no preliminary drawing or even a loose sketch. This way he is able to capture the essence of a cityscape with expression and vigour.
